Job Description

Position:  Director , Our Relations (Child and Family) Department Term: Permanent Full Time – 40 hours per week
Start date: ASAP (or until position is filled)
Wage: Commensurate with experience, as per salary range for Grade 8 level employee in UNB Personnel Policy
Reports to: Band Administrator

Role:
Reporting to the Band Administrator, the Director, Our Relations KwU StemtimA? supports the goals and plans of the KwU StemtimA/ , implements the “CAptIkw]  Ethic Protocol Agreement” with the Scw’exmx Child and Family Services. Further, the individual will work collaboratively with others to facilitate opportunities for all Upper Nicola Relations (children and families) to achieve their full potential and realize a healthy quality of life demonstrating a strong and healthy community through the expression of ancestral beliefs and values in a way that demonstrates syilx culture and the teachings of the Acmiscut Chiefs. The Director oversees the staff, facilities, programs, and administrative activities required to achieve outcomes, goals, and strategic plans and makes complex decisions in consultation with the Band Administrator and the KwU StemtimA/.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide the administrative leadership to implement the KwU StemtimA/ Strategic Plan,
Develop and make recommendations on the laws, policies, and procedures as well as the institutional frameworks required to transition to and fully assert Upper Nicola’s inherent rights,
Strengthen traditional skills within families and community; leverage strengths, amplify community impact; create opportunities for community members to grow, develop and lead meaningful lives; enhance the quality of life for individuals, families, and community,
Collaborate and coordinate services with community stakeholders; increase collaborations between community agencies/entities in proactive efforts to preserve family and culture,
Develop and manage restorative policies and practice grounded in traditional healing measures; ensure practices are culturally safe, reflective of intergenerational impacts and trauma-informed practice,
Integrate CAptIkw] Ethic , syilx and Acmiscut Chiefs (traditional knowledge keepers) ways of knowing into all aspects of programming, client interaction and planning to preserve family, Relations, and culture through the dedicated support of KwU StemtimA/ and Resident Elders,
Oversee the management of the financial affairs of the program,
Develop a communications strategy for community leadership, affiliated organizations and public awareness of KwU StemtimA/ programs and services,
Ensure the proper development, maintenance, and confidentiality of records,
 
Qualifications/Experience:

Master’s degree with an acceptable specialization in social development,
Five years of experience working with Indigenous families or communities,
Three years of Leadership or Program Management experience,
Five years of experience in Social Work, Child Welfare or Adoptions Work,
Advanced knowledge of the traditions and lifestyle that embodies syilx and Upper Nicola Band cultures and the CAptIkw] Ethic,
Experience or applied knowledge of the historical and systemic impacts of intergenerational trauma due to Colonialism, Residential School, Sixties Scoop and the child welfare system on Indigenous families and communities.
Current First Aid/CPR certificate or willing to obtain.
Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
Clean Criminal Record check is required.

Knowledge/skills/abilities

Understanding of cultural awareness and sensitivity. Collaborative team player. Ability to exercise tact, discretion, and diplomacy. Honest, trustworthy, and respectful
Advanced knowledge and skill in MS Word and MS Excel
This job involves working flexible hours and could include weekends and evenings.
