Job Description
The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) provides regional governance and services throughout Vancouver Island's beautiful central east coast. Communities within the region include the municipalities of Nanaimo, Lantzville, Parksville, and Qualicum Beach, as well as seven unincorporated Electoral Areas. Established in 1967, the RDN is one of British Columbia's most populous Regional District throughout the province and home to more than 170,000. It is also an award-winning organization, and develops and oversees innovative programs that effectively steward the region’s environment and resources, and create a positive quality of life for residents.

As the senior team leader at the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN), the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) works with the Board to implement and operationalize their vision for the region, and to provide sound advice and support in the development of policy. In so doing, the CAO provides dynamic leadership to the RDN’s staff and ensures that projects and initiatives continue to move forward in a timely and consultative manner, recognizing the very unique and diverse needs throughout the region. The CAO also plays a significant role externally across the region with partners such as member local governments, Indigenous governments and leadership, provincial bodies and others on various issues affecting the region.

As the ideal candidate, you are a proven strategic leader with outstanding relationship and communication skills, and a commitment to achieving excellence in public service. Dedicated to teamwork, you have a natural ability to build effective working relationships with elected officials, employees, and external partners, and you are committed to building diverse and inclusive teams where all voices are heard and respected. You bring experience moving agendas forward in a multi-partner environment and have demonstrated capacity in creating a positive work environment with a focus on service delivery. Working with elected officials and a highly involved community throughout the region, you are solutions-oriented with proven experience in not only setting out expectations of performance for departments, but also leading a senior leadership team and multi-faceted workforce that serves the needs of the organization, the community, and its citizens. Demonstrated relevant professional qualifications and clearly recognized accomplishments in effecting substantial positive environmental, social and economic outcomes will be a hallmark for this most important role.
