The Government of Northwest Territories is seeking a Deputy Minister for the Industry, Tourism and Investment Department. The mandate of the Department is to promote economic self-sufficiency through the responsible development of the NWT mineral and petroleum resources; the development of natural resource industries, including agriculture, commercial fishing and the traditional economy; and the promotion and support of tourism, trade and investment, business, and manufacturing and secondary industries, to create a prosperous, diverse and sustainable economy for the benefit of all NWT residents.
The Deputy Minister will provide effective advice to support the Premier, Minister, and Legislative Assembly to address the unique economic development challenges of the Northwest Territories. This individual will provide leadership to staff across the department and is a key member of the corporate leadership team for the territory, delivering on Cabinet priorities and moving key agendas forward. They will work closely with local and First Nations governments, provincial, and federal partners, as well as industry associations and the business community to drive innovative economic development initiatives and to position the territory to take advantage of new and emerging opportunities and programs.
The ideal candidate brings strategic vision, leadership acumen, and highly developed relationship skills to this senior position. The Deputy Minister will have experience working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholder groups, and have the ability to build meaningful partnerships that support economic development and future sustainability, in a changing economic environment. The ideal candidate will have prior experience within a related portfolio.
The successful candidate will have a graduate degree, along with at least 15 years of progressive senior level management experience within a complex, public sector setting. A combination of education and experience will also be considered.
