Metro Vancouver is a federation of 21 municipalities, one Electoral Area and one Treaty First Nation that collaboratively plans for and delivers regional-scale services. Its core services are drinking water, wastewater treatment and solid waste management. Metro Vancouver also regulates air quality, plans for urban growth, manages a regional parks system and provides affordable housing. The regional district is governed by a Board of Directors of elected officials from each local authority.

Reporting to the Board, the Chief Administrative Officer/Commissioner provides leadership and direction to a workforce of approximately 1,600 employees dedicated to the provision of mandated and delegated services to 21 member municipalities, one Treaty First Nation and one Electoral Area. Accountable for the organization’s budget and for delivering on the objectives of the Board’s Strategic Plan, the CAO provides direction for all areas of organizational accountability. Hires, leads and mentors staff and provides advice and recommendations to the Metro Vancouver Boards and leadership to the senior management team and broader organization.
The ideal candidate brings a demonstrated track record of success in a senior level position in a public organization of significant size and complexity where he/she has led a diverse team and oversight of operations in the implementation of programs and strategies. Experience from within a highly scrutinized, visible, multi-stakeholder environment with a broad scope and diversity of functions will be critical.
