The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services.
INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

As the Director, Compliance and Licensing you will be accountable for the effective and efficient development, implementation and management of transport and electrical/mechanical/elevator safety compliance and road licensing programs. With a network of issuing offices throughout the north, the Director must be aware of the context of the northern driver during the development of policies and procedures for the licensing of vehicles and drivers within the NWT.
In this role you will hold a statutory appointment as Registrar, Motor Vehicles, responsible for administering the Motor Vehicles Act, All-Terrain Vehicles Act, the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act (NWT) and the attendant Regulations. You will be appointed federally as an administrative director for the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act (Canada) and the National Safety Code and be responsible for the administration of aspects of the Deh Cho Bridge Act.
The Director will sit as a member of the Board of Directors on the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators, as on other external national and international committees, and must use experience and management knowledge to speak on behalf of the government, including on matters for which the GNWT has not yet established a firm position.
A degree in social sciences, business management or public administration; and a minimum of fifteen (15) years’ work experience in the transportation field, including five (5) years of experience at the managerial level directing a team.

The salary range for this position is from $64.22 per hour to $91.74 per hour (approximately $125,229 - $178,893) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,700
