Job Description
As the heart of the Peace River region, the City of Fort St. John offers a high standard of living, abundant amenities and boundless wilderness. With a population of approximately 21,000, the city is the largest community in northeast BC and the second largest community north of Kamloops. The lifestyle is second to none, with literally a non-existent commute to work, you can spend more time with family and friends. If the outdoors isn’t your thing, they have remarkable indoor amenities that rival anything a larger community has.

The City of Fort St. John is an exceptionally innovative community that strives to think beyond the here and now. In order to support this, the Council is now seeking its next Chief Administrative Officer to continue the advancement of the City of Fort St. John.

As Council’s only employee, the Chief Administrative Officer is responsible to Council to manage the administration of the organization and ensure that Council has the full information to make the right decisions. In a fast-paced community environment, the Chief Administrative Officer provides effective leadership to the General Managers to ensure that they are supporting the Senior Management Team, in advancing the strategic priorities of the city.

We are seeking an innovative, strategic and collaborative leader to join as Chief Administrative Officer. We anticipate the candidate could have worked for a wide variety of organizations across the private and public sector. The candidate will have a demonstrated knowledge of the public and or municipal sector and an absolute commitment to maintaining a goal-oriented culture, with exceptional standards. At a minimum, we expect they will have the following core competencies and experience: multiple years of senior leadership experience, demonstrable success in strategic planning, relationship building and fostering collaboration, innovation, change management, exceptional communication skills and budget administration.
