Job Description

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure’s mission is to contribute to New Brunswick’s economy and quality of life by providing transportation infrastructure that allows for the safe and efficient movement of people and goods, as well as building infrastructure to accommodate government services. Over 1,600 employees with a variety of expertise and skills work together to achieve this mission. The department plans, designs, operates, and maintains an extensive network of 18,000 km of highway, connected by 2,697 bridges and nine ferry crossings. The department manages 416 GNB-owned buildings and is responsible for 145 leases, the province’s fleet of vehicles and an inventory of approximately 1,400 properties.

The Deputy Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure serves as the Department’s executive head and an integral member of the leadership team of the New Brunswick’s public service. As Deputy Minister, you will provide strategic direction for the building, strategic services, transportation, finance and administration, human resources and radio communications divisions of the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure. You will ensure strategic and operational plans are in place to provide infrastructure and systems which are maintained, cost-effective, sustainable, efficient, and safe and you will constantly be seeking to find new and innovative ways to do things better. You will provide sound advice on policies and processes and develop effective, open, and consultative relationships with key external and internal stakeholders alike. By providing leadership and direction to the Department’s core business functions and over 1,600 employees and just under $1b budget, you will ensure high quality transportation and infrastructure services for all New Brunswickers.

As the ideal candidate, you bring proven leadership experience in a complex, multi-stakeholder organization coupled with a solid foundation of experience leading large construction projects and building, maintenance and transportation functions. You have led, inspired and developed large teams in unionized environments and been accountable for large operational and project budgets. You are a big picture, systems thinker with the ability to develop and execute a progressive vision for the Department that supports the Government of New Brunswick’s strategic goals. You bring a strong business and financial acumen and the proven your ability to navigate complex agendas, develop progressive strategies, and enable and support others to execute on operational objectives.  Results orientation, adaptability, creativity, and tenacity are hallmarks of your leadership.
