Job Description

 

The ministry’s mandate is to develop the “Educated Citizen”, which is defined as the Intellectual, Human, Social, and Career Development of students. The ultimate purpose being that children achieve their individual potential and become independent adults who have a lifelong appreciation for learning, a curiosity about the world around them and the capacity for creative thought and expression through compassionate and empathetic world views.

The ministry’s mandate has also been expanded to include delivering on government’s ChildCareBC plan to establish child care as a core service that is available to any family that wants it, when they need it, at a price they can afford.

The ministry’s role is to provide leadership, set standards and provide funding to the K-12 education system, through governance, legislation, policy, curriculum, assessments, and standards.

The Assistant Deputy Minister  is responsible for managing the legislative framework of both the K-12 education  and child care systems while providing expert economic and statistical analysis, informing strategic policy development, leading labour relations and workforce development, and providing oversight of BC’s international and independent schools in the K-12 sector.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned, strategic and innovative leader with a diversity of experience in complex, multi-stakeholder environments. Communicative, diplomatic and collaborative, they will need comprehensive knowledge of the processes and practices of government and legislation, as well as a clear understanding of the function of regulatory frameworks and regimes governing professions.
