Job Description
A unique and rare opportunity exists to assume the founding Registrar/CEO role in the newly formed BC College of Oral Health Professionals, a regulatory body for oral health professions in the province that will embrace the framework for modernization of health professional regulations. The four oral health colleges that regulate British Columbia’s dental professionals have amalgamated to create a single oral health regulator. The amalgamation partners are the College of Dental Hygienists of BC, the College of Dental Technicians of BC, the College of Dental Surgeons of BC and the College of Denturists of BC.
Supported by the BC Ministry of Health, the amalgamation initiative is informed by the BC government’s plan for modernizing the health regulatory system to better serve patients and the public. The four oral health colleges have agreed that having a single regulator for all oral health disciplines will benefit the public. It will promote team-based dental care and provide a single point of contact for patients, the public and registrants alike. It will also simplify navigation for patients, their families and the public with questions and concerns related to their oral health and improve effectiveness through shared resources and experience.
The first board of the new College has been appointed by the Ministry of Health. Reporting to the Board, the inaugural Registrar will lead the strategic direction and operational management of the College. The Registrar/CEO is the key influencer, consensus builder, and spokesperson responsible for upholding the highest standard of service and principles of accountability, consistency, transparency, agility, and targeted regulation. In cooperation between employers and the six dental professions, the Registrar will develop a provincial framework, systems and programs aimed to protect patients and the public by ensuring that regulated dental professionals provide services in a safe, competent, and ethical manner.
The ideal candidate brings a track record of success as an executive in a senior leadership role and an understanding of health professional regulations that could be gained as an executive in a health organization, regulatory agency, or related entity that serves the public trust. Experience that includes standing up a new organization, leading a merger, and/or transforming processes is ideal. Armed with superior relationship building skills and governance acumen, the founding Registrar/CEO will bring a highly strategic lens to the creation of this new College.
This is an opportunity to make an impact at a provincial and system level and is ideally suited to a dynamic, strategic, and creative leader with an outstanding record for building collaborative relationships.
Colleges are currently located in Vancouver and Victoria with the location for the role being negotiable with the new Board.
