An integral part of Algonquin College’s polytechnic education identity is a vibrant, dynamic, and sustainable Applied Research portfolio that makes a significant contribution to the innovation eco-system expected of a mature post-secondary institution.  It is within this context that the College is now recruiting for a Director, Applied Research (Director) to lead this critically important area for the College.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Experiential Learning and Innovation, the Director is responsible for leading and managing Algonquin College’s Applied Research Office (ARO) and strategic research agenda including: spearheading the development and execution of the College’s strategic plan for applied research across the College; developing strategic research themes for applied research programs for the next 5 to 10 years; planning of, budgeting for and delivery on annual business plans; securing and managing an increasingly diverse body of research funds; developing and enhancing faculty partnerships; and fostering public and private sector collaborative research relationships.  In conjunction with the to-be-hired Associate Director – Research Operations, the incumbent is responsible for representing the College on research committees and to external organizations; developing and implementing effective research policies, processes, and procedures; and establishing and maintaining efficient research support services.

As a well-qualified candidate, you have a passion for student success and education. You have obtained a minimum of a master’s level degree, combined with considerable experience in conducting research activities. You possess demonstrated skill and experience in areas such as research design and methodology, assessing ethical issues in research, proposal writing, project development and management and in-depth knowledge of research funding sources. You also possess experience, gained in private or public sector environments, focused on producing research that is commercially viable. Your business acumen and familiarity with business planning, operations management, business development and marketing will supplement your strong knowledge of the applied research eco-system. Your open, transparent, and collaborative approach will serve you well in working with students, faculty, staff, alumni, government officials, research partners, employers, and any other stakeholder to achieve mutual goals. Your exceptional leadership and change management skills will be highly utilized in this role.
