The University of Ottawa (uOttawa) is the largest bilingual (French-English) university in the world. Centrally located in Canada’s capital, we have ready access to many of our country’s great institutions. Our advances in social sciences, health, engineering, science and the humanities make uOttawa a unique place to learn, grow and excel.
Social Sciences is the largest faculty at uOttawa. With more than 260 professors and 10,000 students, it offers a wide variety of opportunities for all. Its nine academic units include Criminology, Economics, Feminist and Gender Studies, International Development and Global Studies, Political Studies, Psychology, Public and International Affairs, Social Work, and Sociological and Anthropological Studies.
The Faculty is located in the heart of our downtown campus, in two buildings that rank among the country’s greenest. Its high-quality education helps students analyze the social dimension of issues and understand human reality in all its diversity, and its programs highlight interdisciplinary and experiential learning. The Faculty’s research has grown at a phenomenal rate in recent years and its professors are making a rich contribution to society, both by developing theories and carrying out empirical studies and by influencing public policy and making a direct impact on individuals and communities.
The University of Ottawa now seeks to appoint a dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences to lead the Faculty and, as a member of the University’s senior administration, share responsibility for the overall management of our institution. Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, the next Dean will be a respected scholar, experienced administrator and strong leader, bilingual (French-English), with a compelling vision for an elite, bilingual social sciences faculty.
