Job Description

Alberta Justice and Solicitor General, Edmonton. Advocate for vulnerable Albertans who require decision making supports.

Alberta’s Public Trustee plays a pivotal role in advancing supports for individuals who are unable to make financial decisions for themselves; providing legal trusteeship to represented adults; protecting the property of minors and unborn children; and administering estates of deceased and missing persons. Collaboration and trusted relationships with key internal and external stakeholders is essential for delivering programs that safeguard the financial well-being of represented individuals, and to ensure proper estate administration under complex circumstances.  Your focus is system-wide as you ensure accountabilities associated with legislative and court-ordered responsibilities are achieved and regularly reviewed to meet the changing needs of clients. Under your leadership, regional teams in Edmonton, Calgary and Red Deer will coordinate programs, regionalize services as appropriate, work with legal services and implement improvements to existing policies and processes. Reporting to the Executive Director, Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee, you will help shape the strategic direction that positions us to deliver on our commitment to integrated client centric service.

Your career demonstrates an extensive background in related senior management roles within service-oriented organizations, preferably in public sector environments.  Ideally you bring provincial and pan-Canadian knowledge of leading trusteeship practices, and experience with complex policy and legislative issues. Change management and strategic planning strengths, and the skills to manage complicated legal matters and influence high impact decisions are essential.  A practiced relationship builder, you are recognized for your ability to engage clients and stakeholders and negotiate the resolution of challenging issues.  Your proven strengths as a leader who empowers and motivates teams to strive for excellence will set a course for the success of the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee.  A related degree is preferred.  

The Public Trustee is appointed for a term of up to five years with a possible extension of one additional term.  This executive level opportunity offers a salary range of $125,318 – $164,691 ($4,801.47 – $6,310.03 bi-weekly). Final candidates will be required to undergo security, disclosure and conflict of interest screening.  This competition may be used to fill future vacancies.
