Alex Romanek

Manager, Policy Alignment and Legislation, Alberta Environment and Parks


Alex Romanek has a background in Political Science and Public Administration. As a seven-year public servant with the Government of Alberta, Alex has been in a number of roles related to policy development and legislation. He has worked for the Policy Coordination Office within Executive Council. Currently, he is the Manager, Policy Alignment and Legislation with Alberta Environment and Parks, where he leads a team involved in planning, managing and coordinating the ministry’s strategic policy and legislative agenda.

Alex has been involved with the Edmonton Regional Group of IPAC for several years now. As an actively contributing member of the New Public Servants committee, he has been involved in successfully creating a space for new public servants to grow, develop, network and learn. He was part of the Logistics Team for the 2014 IPAC Conference in Edmonton. Subsequently, he was Program Director for the highly innovative and successful 2015-16 Café Pracademique initiative, which delivered four full-day events centred on policy development, involving 300+ public servants and scores of volunteers, speakers and other thought leaders. Alex has served on the Edmonton Regional Board as Member at Large as well as a Co-Chair role for the Relationships portfolio.

Alex is a committed public servant and believes firmly in the values of public service. Moreover, he has highly supported and contributed to the mission and objectives of IPAC. Alex wholeheartedly ascribes to the value of IPAC as an organization that creates a space for excellence in public administration, knowledge creation and dissemination, skills development, and relationship building.
