Workplace of the Future

The redesign of workplaces is occurring at all levels of government including through the Ontario Government’s Macdonald Block Complex transformation, the Federal Government’s Blueprint 2020 and a range of municipal government workplace development initiatives. In other sectors of the economy, organizations are reinventing workspaces to drive business modernization and deliver enhanced employee and client experiences.

These transformation initiatives are being driven by several key trends that are shaping what public services look like and how they are delivered. Increasingly, employees are not specifically attached to one career, and are looking for opportunities to make a social impact. They are mobile, striving for continuous development, ever more tech-savvy and value the ability to work from just about anywhere, at just about any time.

  • How are citizen expectations changing the operating environment?
  • What is the profile of the future government worker and to what extent does that vary across public services?
  • How do we leverage new office layouts and technologies to enable a more engaged, productive, collaborative, and motivated workforce?
  • How do we address the interests/needs of Baby Boomers, Gen X-ers, Millennials, and people from different cultural backgrounds?
  • How can government effectively balance the competing demands of different stakeholders and manage both efficiency and effectiveness considerations?
  • To what extent can design thinking, behavioural economics, and new technologies be used to create innovative solutions that drive employee satisfaction, productivity, and engagement?

The event will explore the new vision of the future government workplace as well as practical initiatives underway to manage change.
