Political Stink Over Ripe Cheese
Author: Steven Brooks
Publication Date: 1996, 2004

This case involves a fictionalized account of the controversy generated by Ottawa's 1996 proposal to ban the sale of all unpasteurized milk products. A 1991 amendment to Canada's Food and Drug Regulations already required the pasteurization of all dairy products except cheese. Moreover, less than 1% of all cheese sold in Canada would have been affected by the proposed ban. Despite these facts, Ottawa's actions generated a major political row.
