Wade MacLauchlan recognized for excellence in public administration

Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, March 7, 2011 — Wade MacLauchlan, president of the University of Prince Edward Island, is the recipient of the latest IPAC Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration.

 The award was presented to Mr. MacLauchlan at a recent ceremony at Government House. Making the presentation were the Honourable Barbara A Hagerman, Lieutenant Governor, and Janice Pettit, Regional Chair of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC).

 “As president of the University of Prince Edward Island,” said the Honourable Barbara A Hagerman, “Wade is inspirational, passionate, and tireless in his efforts to raise expectations and make a difference for students, the university community, and for Prince Edward Island.”

 The award recognizes outstanding contributions to the public sector by employees who exhibit high standards of excellence, dedication and accomplishment, and whose exceptional achievements have shown distinctive leadership in public administration in Prince Edward Island.

“Wade personifies the best in public service: commitment, excellence, and courage,” said Janice Pettit. “Wade has always used his skills and expertise for the advancement of knowledge and education locally, regionally and nationally. Throughout his tenure at UPEI, he has worked closely with all levels of government, with colleagues in the public service, and with the broader community to promote a collaborative, ambitious and long-range view of opportunities and challenges for PEI and the Atlantic region.”

Mr. MacLauchlan has been president of the University of Prince Edward Island since 1999. A lawyer, he has taught and held administrative leadership positions at the University of New Brunswick, Dalhousie University and other universities. He holds degrees from UPEI, UNB and Yale and has served on and lead numerous boards, councils and associations during his career.
