IPAC - Institute of Public Administration of Canada

What We Do

OUR VISION:
To be the best Canadian source of public sector knowledge and expertise in support of sustainable development, democratic governance, and effective public policy. Our approach is responsive and grounded in the needs identified by our international partners.

Since 1992, IPAC has supported our members’ desire to share their expertise and experience with public sector colleagues around the world and to increase Canadian awareness and understanding of international development.

With a vision to be the best Canadian source of public sector knowledge and expertise, IPAC’s International Program makes substantive contributions to its international partners’ priorities and Canada’s aid agenda. Focused on the long-term goals of its international partners and working with highly specialized practitioners from all orders of government, academia, non-governmental organizations and the private sector, IPAC’s programming enhances the capacity of public sector institutions through the development of policies, processes, systems and tools, and the skills of public sector professionals.

In order to achieve these results, IPAC’s International Program places special emphasis on:

  • Immediate and practical development assistance;
  • Innovative “made-to-measure” workshops and training programs -- often cascaded across political and administrative government; and
  • Peer-to-peer hands-on-learning through job-shadowing, mentoring and study missions.

Additionally, as IPAC recognizes the importance of sharing expertise, innovation and lessons learned within Canada and across its borders, its International Program contributes to the body of literature on public administration and management through case studies, publications, annual workshops and its websites.

For further information on IPAC International, please read the special international edition of IPAC’s Public Sector Management magazine which is published every August and features country profiles and thematic articles on democratic governance issues. Past editions are as follows:

"We have long demonstrated the principles that the international community recently adopted in the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness, the Monterrey Consensus, and the Millennium Development Goals, including local ownership, strong partnerships, results-based action, knowledge sharing, monitoring and evaluation and mutual accountability."
-Ann Masson, Director, IPAC International Programs
