ࡱ> <>;@ /bjbjFF . ,,%W""""n n n 8   ( "4 4 4 Y[[[[[[$R!r@""4 4 "R4 4 YY=t"4 ޾n FvUE0],T"T"""""T"nm)d7n b^n IPAC Study and Consultation Social Media and Public Sector Policy Dilemmas Canada, federally, provincially and municipally, has been at the forefront of Gov2.0 and the use of social media GCPedia, NRCan Wiki, BCs Conversation on Health, Ontarios Citizens Forum, Habitat Jam, and a wide range of citizen engagement projects. Governments that dont have wikis, blogs and citizen engagement soon will. This move to social media at times conflicts with legislative and regulatory requirements on privacy, bilingualism, security and information management. Are existing policy frameworks robust enough to both protect privacy and enforce legislation while providing the speed, transparency and interactivity that social media require? How can government manage the paradox? This study will explore the issues, identify some leading practices, build a community of interest, and suggest future direction. The project will begin with national roundtable discussions and case studies. Focus group consultations have already been held in Ottawa and Toronto. Two more will be held in Edmonton and Victoria. A report distilling those consultations will be prepared. Three case studies will also be prepared on the USA, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Case studies will highlight key problems, solutions, and future directions.
