Coordination in Canadian Governments: A Case Study of Aging Policy

By Kenneth Kernaghan and Olivia Kuper
ISBN 0-919696-25-2. Pp. 78.

The study's practical importance lies in its examination of institutions, organizations, groups and individuals significantly involved in the development and implementation of aging policy in Canada. More specifically, it describes interaction in the field of aging within and between governments on the one hand and between governments and non-governmental actors on the other. The major focusis on interaction that aims to achieve coordination in the aging policy process.

The introduction provides a basis for discussion in subsequent chapters by examining the increasing number and cost of Canada's elderly. Then, chapter two outlines a framework that is applied in chapters three through five to facilitate discussion of coordination of aging policy at each of the three levels of Canadian government. Finally, chapter six contains analysis and conclusions of both a theoretical and practical nature.
