IPAC Nova Scotia Medal of Excellence Awarded

     Robert Fowler was presented with the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration on January 21, 2011 at Government House. The award recognizes exceptional achievement in public administration and encourages quality service in all orders of government.

     “Public servants ensure the mechanics of our democratic system function smoothly and efficiently,” said lt.-gov. Mayann Francis. “But they are also the unsung heroes who toil in the offices and corridors of power.”

     Mr. Fowler retired in 2010 after more than 34 years with the Nova Scotia public service. He was Deputy Minister to the Premier, Head of the Nova Scotia Public Service and Clerk/Secretary of the Executive Council. He had previously served as Deputy Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Treasury Board, Immigration and Health Promotion and Protection.

     “Bob Fowler has had a lasting impact on the public service and the province,” said Jane Fraser, Chair of the Nova Scotia Region of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC). “Throughout his career he championed the valued work of public servants, its integral role in our democracy, and the opportunities we have to positively affect the lives of Nova Scotians.”

     The Award of Excellence is presented annually to a public servant who made a unique and outstanding contribution to public administration in the federal, provincial, municipal or academic fields.

     The Institute of Public Administration of Canada is a national organization dedicated to excellence in public service through encouraging the highest standards of professional practice and service to the public.
