August 24 2010 New ‘Network of Networks’ to improve public administration Today the Institute of Public Administration in Canada (IPAC) announced the creation of Public Service Without Borders, a virtual forum for the discussion and sharing of best practices in public administration. PSWB is envisioned as a ‘network of networks’ using the internet and other social media to create a virtual community of professionals involved in all aspects of public administration, in Canada and abroad.

August 24 2010 Bryan P. Davies Honoured with 2010 Vanier Medal Ottawa, August 23, 2010 – Bryan P. Davies, currently the Chair of the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation and Vice-Chair of the Canadian Securities Transition Office, is the 2010 recipient of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada’s Vanier Medal.


August 24 2010 Louis Sabourin and Allan Tupper Honoured with 2010 Pierre De Celles Award for Excellence in Teaching Public Administration Ottawa, August 24, 2010 – The Institute of Public Administration of Canada is pleased to announce the winners of the Pierre De Celles Award for Excellence in Teaching Public Administration: Dr. Louis Sabourin of l’École nationale d’administration publique (ENAP) at the University of Quebec, and Dr. Allan Tupper of the University of British Columbia.

August 24 2010 2010 Innovative Management Award Winners Announced Ottawa, August 24, 2010 – The Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC) proudly presents Alberta Housing and Urban Affairs with the Gold award for the 2010 IPAC Innovative Management Award.

August 23 2010 Regional Group Excellence Award The Regional Group Excellence Award and accompanying Wes Black Membership Trophy was presented, this year, to IPAC’s Yukon Regional Group.

August 23 2010 Promising New Professional Award In March 2010, IPAC announced a new Award to add to the litany of prestigious awards IPAC presents recognizing excellence. The Promising New Professional Award was designed to honour an individual who has distinguished themselves in the public sector. Having worked for less than five years, future leaders were nominated by their supervisors from all across Canada.

August 11 2010 TREVOR COULOMBE COULOMBE, Trevor Charles, October 2, 1971 On July 21, 2010, Trevor Coulombe of Edmonton passed away suddenly at the age of thirty-eight near Penticton, B.C.

June 24 2010 IPAC says goodbye to CEO Gabriel Sékaly It is with mixed feelings that I announce that Gabriel Sékaly has resigned from his position as CEO of IPAC, effective July 9, 2010 to take on a new career opportunity with the Ontario Ministry of Education as the Assistant Deputy Minister of the Elementary/Secondary Business and Finance Division. Gabriel has been with us for four years and I know you are all aware that he has made an invaluable contribution to IPAC. Much of our success has been due to the dedication and expertise of Gabriel to both the public service sector and to IPAC....

Increased citizen participation, significant reforms in governance and an emphasis on performance management continue to have a significant impact on municipalities in Australia and Canada, according to a study by the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC).


June 03 2010 Ontario’s Quality by Design Initiative: ED PIP - Showing Resilience, Reliability and Results June 3, 2010, Toronto- A study released today by the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC) of five acute-care hospitals in the Waterloo-Wellington region highlights the stories of these ‘high performers in the making’ and their respective experiences with ED PIP – the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s “Emergency Department Process Improvement Program.”


May 18 2010 Social Media and Public Sector Policy Dilemmas In the Spring of 2010, IPAC conducted four roundtables with representatives from three levels of government, and other interested parties across the country as well as some individual interviews to determine the state of Social Media in government. This report entitled Social Media and Public Sector Policy Dilemmas provides the results of the first phase of this study that was generously supported by Library and Archives Canada and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. The reports provides concrete recommendations for government action and sets the stage for phase II of this research study.

May 13 2010 Governor General presented Vanier Medal to Dr. Gordon S. Smith – Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, presented today the 2009 Vanier Medal to Dr. Gordon S. Smith, Executive Director of the Centre for Global Studies at the University of Victoria, in British Columbia, and former distinguished Canadian public servant. The ceremony was held at Rideau Hall.

February 09 2010 Announcing the Lieutenant Governor's Medal of Distinction to Patricia Walcott The Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, and the Hamilton, National Capital Region and Toronto Regional Groups of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada are pleased to announce the award of the 2009 Lieutenant Governor’s Medal of Distinction in Public Administration, Ontario’s highest honour for public service, has been awarded to Patricia Walcott, Senior Executive Director, Service Canada (Ontario Region).

February 05 2010 2010 IASIA OP Dwivedi Award: Call for Nominations in 2008 the IASIA Board of Management launched the OP Dwivedi Award in honour of Professor O P Dwivedi, Board of Management Member and former IASIA Regional Vice President for North America.

IASIA is currently seeking nominations for this year’s award to honour a distinguished international scholar or practitioner for significant contributions to public administration and public policy in the world. In 2008, the Award was given to Guido Bertucci, former Director of the Division for Public Administration and Development Management, UNDESA, and in 2009 to the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

If you would like to put forward a nomination, please send to the Chair of the Award Committee and the IASIA Secretariat (bwooldri@vcu.edu ; j.irschik@iias-iisa.org), no later than 28 February 2010, a 1-2 page outline indicating why your nominee meets criteria #1 and why he or she should receive the award. The Award Committee, chaired by Prof. Blue Wooldridge, Virginia Commonwealth University and comprised of members of the IASIA Board of Management, will then review the nominations and recommend a candidate to the Board of Management. The Award will be officially presented at the IIAS-IASIA Congress in Bali, Indonesia.

  • Papers must directly address one or more aspects of the conference theme;
  • In line with the aims of the IIAS papers must have a scientific character (explicitly party political or overtly ideological papers are not suitable);
  • Final papers should normally be of between 4000 and 8000 words;
  • Papers can be accepted in English or French
