Frozen Past, Thawing Future: Climate-change Impacts and Heritage Resources in the Northwest Territories, Canada
Date: Wednesday, March 29, 2017
Time: 12:00-1:30 p.m.
Location: Arthur Laing Building, 6th Floor Boardroom (5003-49th Street, Yellowknife)
Join us for a presentation from Dr. Tom Andrews, an archaeologist and anthropologist who has worked in the Canadian North for four decades.
Much of the NWT is underlain by permafrost which is thawing at unprecedented rates because of global climate change. Thawing permafrost is leading to significant erosion affecting northern landscapes and the archaeological sites they contain. The presentation will survey recent climate-change induced effects and how archaeologists are attempting to monitor and mitigate impacts.
