Lieutenant Governor's Award
Each year, an award is presented to a public servant in the region who has demonstrated exceptional achievement and distinctive leadership in the area of public administration.
The award pays tribute to public sector practitioners whose careers exhibit the highest standards of excellence, dedication, and accomplishment.
The Lieutenant Governor of Alberta is the patron of this award.
The award recognizes the exceptional achievement of a person who has:
• Shown distinctive leadership in public administration or
• Who has made a significant contribution in the field of public administration in the province,
by writings or other endeavors.
The award pays tribute to public sector practitioners whose careers exhibit the highest standards of
excellence, dedication, and accomplishments.
It seeks to provide recognition of an outstanding individual and to underscore the efforts of
creative, highly skilled individuals in the public sector.
The award recognizes outstanding contributions on a sustained basis rather than as a result of a single initiative. Candidates will be judged based on criteria which include their leadership skills, innovation/creativity, accomplishment/impact, and community involvement.

2009 Lieutenant Governor's Award Recipient
Al Maurer, City Manager, City of Edmonton
Alberta Lieutenant Governor the Honourable Norman Kwong presented the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration to Edmonton City Manager Al Maurer. The award, which recognizes a public employee for demonstrating a career of excellence and dedication to the public service, is given out each year by the Institute of Public Administration of Canada Edmonton and Calgary Regional Groups.
