Awards

IPAC is nationally and regionally committed to recognizing public servants for their commitment to advancing innovative and effective public sector management.

Public servants for the purposes of awards means individuals employed by:

- The federal government.
- The provincial government.
- The municipal governments.
- The provincial health authority.
- School boards, universities, colleges, or technical institutions.
- Other agencies, boards, commissions, or associations supported by public funds.

Lieutenant Governor's Award for Excellence
This award is presented for exellence in public administration within the province of Alberta.
The Lieutenant Governor of Alberta is the patron of the award and presents it each year to recognize the outstanding achievements of unsung heroes in the public service in Alberta.
- Open to all public servants.
- Nominations are accepted each September/October.


New Public Servants Award
This new award is intended to recognize achievement and showcase emerging talent in the public service.
The award is presented to an individual who has made significant strides toward excellence in their role.
- Open to all public servants employed for less than five years.

Al Maurer Awards
The Edmonton Community Foundation has announced the establishment of the Al Maurer Awards. The program is geared toward public service employees who are furthering their education in areas that promote public service excellence. Two $2,000 awards are expected to be granted annually.

Volunteer Appreciation Awards
Presented to IPAC members and non-members to recognize serice to the IPAC Edmonton Regional Group Executive Committee or Sub-Committees.
- Nominees are determined by the IPAC Edmonton Regional Group Executive.
- Presented during a luncheon each November.


Awards of Merit
Recognizes excellent service and dedication to the executive and members of the IPAC Edmonton Regional Group.
The award is presented to current and past members of the organization that have provided exceptional and/or long service.
- Nominees are determined by the IPAC Edmonton Regional Group Executive.
- The award is presented at the IPAC Edmonton Regional Group Annual General Meeting.

National Awards

Regional Group Excellence
Awarded to a regional group that exhibits excellence in its endeavours while exemplifying the ideals and objectives of the institute's mission. The Tony Hunt Kwakiutl carving is awarded at the IPAC Annual Conference.
The Edmonton Regional Group has received this award in 1999, 2003, 2005, and 2009.

Vanier Medal
The medal is awarded to a person who has shown distinctive leadership and accomplishment in the public service in Canada.
The medal is presented to the winner at the annual IPAC Conference or by the Governor General at Rideau Hall.

Pierre De Celles Award
This award honours excellence in the teaching of public administration and is presented to a post-secondary teacher.
The "Stack of Reading" sculpture is presented to the winner at the IPAC Annual Conference.

IPAC/Deloitte Public Sector Leadership Award
This award recognizes public sector organizations that have demonstrated outstanding leadership by taking bold steps to improve our country, through advancements in public policy and management via innovative projects and initiatives.
Gold, silver, and bronze awards are available in the following categories: federal/provincial/territorial government; municipal government; health care organizations; educational organizations; non-profit organizations.

Innovative Management Award
This award celebrates and encourages innovative managerial initiatives in the public administration of Canada.
The finalists make presentations at the annual conference and winners are declared at the final luncheon.

J.E. Hodgetts Award
Recognizes the best article appearing in the journal Canadian Public Administration (English language).

Roland Parenteau Award
Recognizes the best article appearing in Canadian Public Administration (French language).

National Student and Thought Leadership
This award is a joint initiative of IPAC and the Canadian Association of Programs in Public Administration (CAPPA).
It aims to recognize and celebrate some of the top students in public administration in Canada.
