Awards overview
IPAC/Deloitte Public Sector Leadership Awards.
The Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC) and Deloitte have partnered to establish the first public sector leadership awards to recognize leading and innovative projects and initiatives. The program was developed to recognize organizations that have demonstrated outstanding leadership by taking bold steps to improve Canada, through advancements in public policy and management. Winners will be announced at the annual Leadership Conference.
IPAC Award for Innovative Management
The IPAC Award is sponsored by IBM and KPMG to celebrate and encourage innovative managerial initiatives in the public administration of Canada. The finalists make presentations at the IPAC Annual Conference and winners are declared at the final luncheon. IPAC has built a database of all entries to enable easy access to the wealth of ideas created by this award.
Vanier Medal
The gold medal is awarded to a person who has shown distinctive leadership and accomplishment in Canadian public service. The medal is bestowed upon the winner at the annual IPAC Conference or, on occasion, by the Governor General at Rideau Hall.
Regional Honours
Each year, IPAC's regional groups honour public servants of great merit in their area. The two groups in Quebec have created a Prix d'excellence in many categories. Other regional groups have chosen to bestow honours on individuals and have sought the patronage of the Lieutenant Governors of their province.
Pierre De Celles IPAC Award
This award honours excellence in the teaching of public administration. The bronze "Stack of Reading" sculpture of Quebec artist Hugues Soucy is presented to the winner at the IPAC Annual Conference.
J. E. Hodgetts Award
This prize recognizes the best article in English appearing in the journal Canadian Public Administration. The Inuit Inukshuk trophy is presented to the winning author(s) at the annual IPAC Conference.
Roland Parenteau Award
This prize recognizes the best article in French appearing in the journal Canadian Public Administration. The Inuit Inukshuk trophy is presented to the winning author(s) at the annual IPAC Conference.
IPAC Regional Group Excellence Award
Awarded to a regional IPAC group that exhibits excellence in its endeavours while exemplifying the ideals and objectives of the Institute's mission. The Tony Hunt Kwakiutl carving is awarded at the annual IPAC Conference.
National Student and Thought Leadership Awards in Public Administration
The National Student and Thought Leadership Awards in Public Administration is a joint initiative of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC) and the Canadian Association of Programs in Public Administration (CAPPA). It aims to recognize and celebrate some of the top students in Canadian public administration.
