IPAC recognizes the Yukon Regional Group
Regional Group Excellence Award and Wes Black Membership Trophy

The Regional Group Excellence Award and accompanying Wes Black Membership Trophy was presented, this year, to IPAC’s Yukon Regional Group.

The Regional Group Excellence Award honours one of IPAC’s seventeen regional groups based on exceptional achievements in serving and expanding their membership and community, each year. The Yukon Regional Group has made dramatic leaps and bounds since it last received the award in 1993.

The Yukon Regional Group successfully increased their membership; tripling the total due to their tireless outreach, targeted at each level of government throughout the territory. The Yukon Regional Group traditionally consisted of employees from the Government of Yukon, but with communication and persistent efforts, they have been opened their base to municipal, federal, First Nations governments and public administration consultants.

The Yukon Regional Group is not only devoted to their members, but also to the community at large. They have recently begun promoting research in the field of civic literacy among Yukon students. The group was established, dedicated to improve the understanding of the levels of power among the youth. The importance of participation in a representative democracy was also stressed, and these are contributions the Yukon Regional Group will to continue to make as a representative of IPAC.

Manon Moreau, Chair of the Yukon Regional Group said, “We have worked extremely to profile and establish IPAC in the Yukon. This has not been without challenges given our community which is often overburdened with committee/volunteer responsibilities. Our small size and distance from the national office has taught us to be creative in demonstrating the benefits of IPAC to Yukon public servants. The Yukon Regional Group is extremely proud to be the recipient of this year’s RG Excellence Award!”

Manon continues to say "IPAC’s 17 regional groups are the foundation of our networking activities and provide many opportunities for learning and sharing". Collectively, IPAC Regional Groups hold more than 175 events a year. To learn about an IPAC Regional Group near you, please visit http://www.ipac.ca/RegionalGroups.
